I’ve been reflecting on my relationship with social media - how I want to engage, what feels aligned, and how I can show up in a way that honors my values. I know I’m not alone in this. Many friends have stepped away, overwhelmed and frustrated by disinformation, sensing the impact of the noise, the urgency, and the demand for more content, more engagement, more of all. the. things...
It has been 33 days since I stepped away from Facebook and Instagram. A self-imposed social media detox... and I feel the difference. My anxiety has dropped - significantly. I sleep deeper and longer. I found delight in reconnecting with contacts on LinkedIn and enjoyed learning about two new spaces - Bluesky and Substack. I have also enjoyed more 1:1 chats on Zoom with that reclaimed time. When I reach for my phone in the morning, it’s not to check notifications... Now, I turn on a guided Transcendental Meditation to set the tone of my day.
Oh, and I officially detoxed from the Dreaded Doom Scroll. It feels so good.
The path here was anything but easy. During this time away, I fought with the mind monsters that told me I "HAVE TO" be on social media. I heard questions float into my thoughts like:
"You HAVE to be there - how will you find clients?""
You HAVE to be there - how will you build Red Threads Collective?"
I took time to sit with these concerns, to hold them in my hands like the fragile relics of an outdated belief system they were. I traced my fears, asking if they were indeed mine or if they had been placed there by a world that equates visibility with value. And in the end, I saw them for what they were - illusions, echoes of a confirmation bias whispered by those who didn’t want to feel the discomfort of stepping back themselves. They wanted me to stay... to validate their own reluctance.
My soul knew better. I couldn’t continue the cycle.
These thoughts are remnants of an old belief rooted in the early days of social media when we were led to believe that our connections, businesses, and communities couldn’t thrive without it. But that was never the truth. For thousands of years, people have gathered without algorithms, without curated feeds, and without the pressure to perform. Women have circled around fires, storytellers have carried wisdom through generations, and sacred communities have flourished - woven together by intention, not platforms.
I intentionally replaced those old questions with new ones rooted in truth, not fear.
Isn’t this very feeling part of why the Collective exists? (Yes!)
Isn’t the sacred space I long for exactly what I am creating? (Yes!)
The Collective is my refuge beyond the noise, a sanctuary untouched by the exhausting demands of feeds and fleeting trends. A gathering place woven with meaning, not metrics. I don’t need to be on Facebook. I choose to be there... when and how it aligns with my truth. I hold the power of choice.
And in this spaciousness, I heard a soulful whisper: Don’t give up.
Now more than ever, the world needs truth-sharers, sacred space holders, and progressive voices willing to shine their light. To show the way. To be the embodiment of grace in a time of chaos. We are called to stand as beacons, illuminating the path through the fog of misinformation - not with force or urgency, but with unwavering presence, clarity, love, and the purest mercy.
I want my presence online to be nourishing, purposeful, and genuine, not another demand for more. I’m ready to re-engage, but in a way that honors my truth. This next season will flow with intention, allowing me to shine a light on truth, creating a space where my community feels seen and supported in their emotions - whether they are frightened, frustrated, or seeking clarity. I will share the wisdom and reflections I craft for the Red Threads Collective blog and newsletter, offer sacred reflection mantras - content created with care, not for the sake of filling a feed - and engage with deep intention, refusing to be swept away by the algorithm’s relentless pull.
If you’ve been feeling the tension between showing up and stepping back, here’s how I’m cultivating a sacred flow that invites peace instead of pressure. Perhaps this will inspire you to create your rhythm.
The Flow: Intentional, Simple, Aligned
Rather than treating social media as a machine that demands constant input, I’m approaching it as a space for gentle touchpoints - offering presence without getting lost in the noise.
1. Weekly Truth & Reflection Post
I'll share a guiding light for my community once a week (or when I feel called to). This could be:
A sacred reflection mantra from the Collective
A thought-provoking question inspired by a conversation
A short insight on the state of the world that validates emotions and shares solutions - without adding to overwhelm
A reminder that you’re not alone
A thought sparked by my consulting work
Why? To create a space where truth, wisdom, and calmness live amidst the chaos of the feed.
✨ Reflection Prompts:
What message or reflection has recently brought you peace, clarity, or a sense of connection that you'd like to share with others on social media?
What truths or insights have you experienced that might serve as a gentle reminder for others, without contributing to the noise or overwhelm?
2. Sharing Red Threads Collective Blog & Newsletter
Whenever I write a new blog post or send a newsletter, I’ll share a short, thoughtful snippet and an invitation to dive deeper.
Why? Because I’m already creating meaningful content - I don’t need to reinvent the wheel for social media.
✨ Reflection Prompts:
What meaningful content have you already created that you can share or repurpose?
3. Engaging Without the Feed
Instead of endlessly scrolling, I’ll engage with intention by:
Visiting specific groups or pages where thoughtful conversation happens
Commenting on posts from people I value, offering depth and connection
Avoiding the algorithm-driven overwhelm of the main feed
Why? This allows me to be present without being consumed.
✨ Reflection Prompts:
Which communities, groups, or pages truly align with your values, and how can you contribute meaningfully to those spaces without getting lost in the noise?
How can you create more meaningful interactions on social media by offering thoughtful comments or insights, rather than getting caught up in the algorithm-driven scroll?
4. Using Stories for Ease & Flow
Instead of feeling the need to post in the main feed all the time, I’ll use Stories for:
Quick shares of Collective blog post and newsletter snippets
One-sentence reflections
Reposting content that aligns with my values
Simple, behind-the-scenes moments (like a journal page or a quiet morning ritual)
Why? Stories are light and impermanent, making them a low-pressure way to stay connected.
✨ Reflection Prompts:
What small, authentic moments or reflections can you share in Stories that feel natural and true to your daily life without the pressure to craft a perfect post?
Create or add to your "Close Friends List" or save to a new "Collection" so those accounts and voices you want to amplify are easy to find.
The Sacred Flow Strategy: Peace Over Pressure
No overthinking – Share when it flows, release when it doesn’t.
Repurpose with intention – My content already exists; I’m simply extending an invitation to it.
Curate my experience – I’ll engage where it feels nourishing, muting what and who drains me.
Batch & schedule when needed – Protecting my time and energy is a priority.
Ultimately, I realized I don’t have to choose one path over another - I can weave them together with intention and grace. My sacred flow is not about rejecting social media entirely nor surrendering to its endless demands. Instead, I am embracing a rhythm that honors both the nourishing sanctuary of the Collective and the connective threads that platforms like Facebook and Instagram can offer when used with purpose.
An Invitation for You
If social media has felt heavy, chaotic, or misaligned, I invite you to pause and realign. Step back, take a breath, and create a sacred flow that honors your energy and allows you to show up in a way that truly nourishes you.
And, if your soul is longing for something deeper, I offer you this: a loving invitation into a space where wisdom is shared, not shouted… where presence is felt, not performed. The Collective is a sanctuary for wise, heart-led women seeking connection beyond the scroll. We offer a place to gather in truth, to be seen and held, and to fill your cup so you can pour into the purpose-filled work you bring to the world. Our member-exclusive forum is a private space where real conversations, deep connections, and powerful collaborations unfold - without algorithms or billionaire bros deciding what you see. Here, you can share your wins, ask for feedback, and connect with like-minded women who truly see and support you. In a world filled with digital chaos, this is your place to breathe, build, and belong. Here, we collectively reclaim connection as something sacred.
Your presence is valuable.
Your voice matters.
And... it should never come at the expense of your peace.
I’d love to hear from you - how are you reshaping your relationship with social media? What’s working for you?
