Weaving Sacred Connections: Why I Chose Red Threads

Updated: Dec 1, 2024

Have you ever felt a sense of deep connection to someone or something, as though an invisible force has drawn you together? The notion that unseen yet unbreakable threads of connection bind us—has long fascinated me. When I created the Red Threads Collective, I wanted the name to reflect the rich tapestry of relationships that shape our lives and the sacred bonds we share as women journeying together toward our highest potential.

Throughout the centuries, there have been references to red threads...

The story of Ariadne, from Greek mythology, offers one of the most profound metaphors for the red thread. When Theseus entered the labyrinth to confront the Minotaur, Ariadne gave him a ball of thread to guide him back to safety. This thread wasn’t just a tool; it symbolized trust, collaboration, and a shared purpose. In the labyrinth of our own lives - ones full of twists, challenges, and the unknown! I believe our threads represent the connections and guidance we need to navigate our journeys.

I have felt a special connection to Mary Magdalene, which was sparked when I was a wee girl attending parochial school. Her story, too, offers a powerful connection to the symbolism of red threads. Often depicted in art wearing red, she represents the sacred feminine, embodying passion, wisdom, and devotion. In some traditions, she is seen as a spiritual counterpart to Christ’s divine masculine energy, a keeper of lineage and spiritual truths.

The red thread symbolizes this sacred feminine wisdom that weaves through time, binding women together in a lineage of strength and purpose. Mary Magdalene’s role as the “apostle to the apostles,” bringing Jeshua's Way to others, echoes the red thread’s symbolism as a guide through life’s labyrinths, connecting us to deeper truths and one another.

Honoring this sacred feminine energy allows us to reclaim our power as creators, nurturers, and visionaries. The Red Threads Collective draws on this lineage, inviting us to become part of a tapestry that reflects divine purpose and collective strength.

In East Asian traditions, the Red Thread of Fate is said to connect those destined to meet. Whether for a reason, a season, or a lifetime, this invisible thread ensures that these connections shape our lives in profound ways.

In Scandinavian folklore, the Norns - mythical beings who weave the fates of all living things - use red threads as part of their loom, symbolizing life's interwoven nature.

In Jewish mysticism, red threads are believed to offer protection, tying us to divine energy and shielding us from harm.

These stories remind us that we are not separate; we are all part of something larger, something beautifully interwoven.

At its heart, the Red Threads Collective is a sacred community. It’s where we, as purpose-driven women, come together to weave our lives into a shared tapestry of strength, wisdom, and support. Each thread, story, skill, and soul adds color and resilience to our collective fabric. This weaving isn’t just metaphorical. When we collaborate, share our truths, and lift each other, we create a foundation strong enough to support our dreams and those of the women who come after us.

I believe the connections we share are sacred. Whether someone enters our lives for a brief moment, a magical season, or a lifetime, they shape who we are. These “sacred contracts” aren’t always easy, but they’re always purposeful. (If you haven't read Sacred Contracts by Caroline Myss - I highly recommend it. You can grab a copy here from our shop.)

These sacred contracts and threads guide us through challenges like Ariadne’s; others provide warmth and comfort. Still, others form the foundation of lifelong friendships and partnerships.

By honoring these connections and seeing them as intentional and sacred, we can better appreciate the people and experiences that shape our journey.

The Red Threads Collective isn’t just a name. It’s a declaration of what I believe to be true: that we are all connected by unseen threads of purpose, love, and growth. By intentionally weaving our paths together, we create something more vital, beautiful, and enduring than we ever could.

Here, you’ll find a community that honors your sacred journey, supports your boldest dreams, and celebrates the threads that connect us all.

Are you ready to add your thread to our tapestry?

Your seat awaits you at our sacred table.
